MEE 390: EXPERIMENTAL METHODS IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING I

This course has been taught frequently by Prof. Kostic in the past and most of the course materials, including multimedia and interactive files, have been posted on the Web [click here]. This Spring 2001 Semester the course will be delivered completely online (except for the hands-on lab experiments), i.e. over the Internet for offerings on- and off-campus. All course materials, including asynchronous and synchronous communications as well as some tests and experiments, will be provided on-line, i.e. over the Internet. Except for the hands-on lab experiments and exams, the students will not be obliged to come to reduced number of in-class lectures which will be offered as a back-up, since the class offering was not announced as on-line only.

Course/Catalog Description:
MEE 390: Experimental Methods in Mechanical Engineering I. Credit 3. Basic concepts of measurement methods and planning and documenting experiments. Typical sensors, transducers, and measurements system behavior. Data sampling and computerized data acquisition systems. Statistical methods and uncertainty analysis applied to data reduction. Laboratory experiments with measurement of selected material properties and solid mechanical and fluid/thermal quantities. A writing-intensive course. CRQ: MEE 212, 340, and 350.
