This is to remind everybody that MEE 482 Midterm presentations for Prof. Kostic’s groups, originally scheduled for this Thursday, 10/11/01, are postponed for the following Tuesday, 10/16/01, and Prof. Song’s group Midterm presentations scheduling is unchanged and will be on Thursday, 10/18/01. Thus all Midterm presentations will be next week on Tu & Th with all students present on both days. Since I am not going to be available this Thursday, all my regular individual meetings for this week are cancelled and should me rescheduled individually or conducted over the email or phone if rescheduling is problematic. Prof. Song’s students should contact Dr. Song for any change of schedule or rescheduling.

PS:
After the Midterm presentations we will be starting with the Course Web pages describing each group project. Please think about preparing short description of your project topic and objectives with supporting illustrations for the Web. That will publicize your/our work and you will get “free advertising” of your ideas and expertise for potential marketing and employment. If you have nay question or concern, please discus it with me or Dr. Song.

Assignments, Notes, Resources, and other Information

• A sound capstone senior project design requires exploiting of all available academic and commercial references and other resources (verbal, printed, electronic, etc.), as well as various consultants such as suppliers, experienced engineers, technologists, machinists and other entrepreneurs, marketing and  professional groups and individuals (see recourse links).
• A research of academic, commercial and other references, including a patent search (see example), must be performed first. Available designs may be used as references and may be adapted/modified/improved. Would be inappropriate if others (or instructor) find the references/patents instead of you, and worse, if someone hide a reference and presents its results as his/her work - that would be cheating, a very serious academic violation of soon-to-be-graduate, a professional.
• A number of innovative and creative solutions to "the problem" (i.e. efficient achievement of project objectives) is expected, including creatively solving or improving the practical/industrial, real-life problems which have not been solved previously or which could be efficiently improved.
• Project planning and timely work and completion of specific tasks and subtasks, defined for individual students within a group (see the syllabus), is very important and critical. The Gant chart has to be developed and updated (Gantt Chart Sample). It has to be very specific, including individual student's tasks and subtasks with weekly time increments.  
   
• The weekly progress report has to be specific, with attached reference information, drawings and calculations when appropriate. It must be dated and include specific work done by individual students in previous week, and detailed plan for individual students for the following week. The weekly report should be presented at the regular, group weekly meeting with the instructor. Copies of all reports and presentations should be emailed to the instructor, before or immediately after the presentation.
