As a part of the University mission to pursue the excellence in teaching, research and public service, Professor Kostic invites managers and professionals from industry to contact him, visit the College of Engineerings new and modern facilities, and discuss possibilities for mutual collaboration.
Dr. Kostic's consulting and research interests are in the area of applied Fluid/Thermal/Energy sciences; with emphases on new technologies, experimental methods, creative design, and computer applications. Kostic has a unique practical/theoretical synergy invaluable for troubleshooting and problem solving (also he is a registered Professional Engineer - PE in Illinois), including resent practical research experiences at NASA Glenn Research Center (as NASA Faculty Fellow ), Fermi National Laboratory (Extrusion), and Argonne National Laboratory (Nanofluids & Patent-Pending Invention; more at www.kostic.niu.edu ).
The competitive and rapid development of technology, requires now more than ever, that every company invest in continuous improvement, innovation, and research and development. The readily available resources at a comprehensive research university - faculty, supporting staff and students, and up-to-date laboratory and computational equipment and software - may effectively and productively be used for industry/university collaboration through research projects and/or consulting. Interaction between the experienced engineers in industry and visionary (and dedicated) university faculty will make a difference and a team bound for success.
With the highest academic training (Ph.D. in Engineering degree from University of Illinois), unique international and industrial experience (P.E. - Professional Engineers licensure from state of Illinois), and continuous professional development in the field, Dr. Kostic is ready to provide high-quality professional services.
A typical research project or consulting may involve:
| Sound understanding of physical phenomena Engineering problem identification and description Effective computational simulation Effective experimental investigation Physical interpretation of results Engineering suggestions and new designs Analysis of suggested design modifications Final engineering recommendations Expert, unbiased second opinion for important research or technical projects, or for troubleshooting and problem solving. |
Professor Kostic's philosophy that every existing problem has its own (optimal) solution has resulted in a strong physical intuition and rational approach with high motivation for practical problem solving. Kostic believes that the only realistic proof of genuine theoretical understanding is ones ability to solve practical real-life problems.
Be aware of complexity but make it simple!
